Hello. My name is Claudine and I live in New Jersey USA with my husband and children. This blog is all about my sewing projects. I hope you enjoy it.
A couple of commenters have asked about where my skill set comes from. First of all, there is the sheer amount of time I put into developing my skills. I am well past Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 hours. Like, way past. I also have an extensive library of current and vintage fashion and technical garment making books from all over the world. I spend hours with these books, even though I can’t read the text in many of them because of language barriers. In addition, I have taken classes at FIT and Parsons in New York, and I trained with a teacher from the Royal School of Needlework outside London. I am very fortunate to have the time and resources to develop my skills.
I took this series of classes at FIT: http://www.fitnyc.edu/2960.asp. Kenneth King teaches most if not all of these classes now, but I had a different instructor. These classes really upped my game. Not only did I learn techniques, I also learned how to think in a way that may not be possible to learn without an instructor.
The Royal School of Needlework was amazing because it is one of only 2 schools that I know of where one can acquire professional handwork skills (the other is run by Lesange in Paris). My instructor was really mean and would not let me get away with anything short of perfection.
So yes, I have a very deep skill set. And one that is entirely unmarketable.
